5 Steps to Building the Ultimate Cloud Based Personal Filing System eBook James Cannam Reviews
While much of the content is pretty basic and what should be common sense re upkeep of data, management of files etc, there are some referred links which make the purchase price worthwhile. Knowing how to boost your Dropbox storage was just one of them.
My rating would be 3.5 stars for the record.
This is a very light general overview /review of various cloud based service offering with a basic folder structure recommendation. It lacks a workflow, method, or any detail on how to do some of the items recommended. For example a chapter of how to setup encryption in the cloud, how to use two factor authentication, the pros and cons of various security approaches etc. The book does not live up to its name.
Great book and explains you a lot the basis to start storing all your informatión online with lost od resources. I would have include a little mor of the oportunities and the use of this on personal gadgets like smatphones, tablets and apple gadgets.
As a long-time advocate of a paper-free office, I was curious about James Cannam's system. I found several nuggets that I will integrate into my cloud storage. If you are in the habit of just saving files randomly, this system is straight-forward and simple enough for cloud storage newbies.
Great advice and a great plan for organizing your paper and stuff.
The less than five-star reviews, in my opinion, completely miss the point of the book and Cannam's advce
This is a deftly drafted succinct read that provides you with a comprehensible approach to and plan for getting into the cloud. Camman tells you where the work is thin and provides warnings and/or suggestions on where to go to beef things up. I would recommend the File Naming Convention white paper at eXadox for a more in depth discussion on the topic. And, for more peace of mind, I would have liked a word on migrating your files and folder structure from one cloud service to another. I've read quite a bit on this topic and not only was this worth it, I'm actually implementing my system with it.
This a very short book (26 screens) that is aimed at a non-technical audience. If you don't know what cloud storage is - this book is for you. The author addresses pros and cons of storing things on the cloud, then moves on to describing how to organize the directories for storage of various content, and ends with some suggestion for backups. Overall, this is very basic advice, so if you are not a total novice you are likely not to find much new here. I did not think there was enough content to justify 2.99 price.
